Seeking participants for Composing-with-the-Event study

Hello,

My name is Sheena Bernett, I am a PhD candidate conducting research for my study titled: Composing with the Event—Performance Practices that Move Toward Neurodiverse Perception/Sensation at Concordia University. If you are interested, I invite you to participate and/or spread the word.

The project aims to investigate techniques and practices that move toward neurodiverse perception and sensation. This investigation will be done by having participants be part of creative activities, which will be collaborative artistic creations and performance explorations. Neurodiversity will be articulated throughout the work both as a concept and also as a movement that attends to the diversity of perception.

The type of creative activities may include, for example,  5-7 performers creating a piece in the woods. Participants would collaboratively (with each other and their environment) create instruments using what is found at hand. Instruments will be used in non-traditional ways to mimic sounds felt in that setting. The shape of the ‘piece’ will be devised by the participants listening to and observing their surroundings and then becoming part of the environmental tapestry.

Insights from the research will be disseminated as a thesis that outlines and offers ways of facilitating neurodiverse modes of encounter that attune to direct perception/sensation.

In the framework of this participatory research-creation study you may have multiple roles, including participant, performer, and co-creator. The confidentiality status of your involvement in this study would be identified.

If you are interested, please do get in touch! For more information please contact me at
sheenabernett@gmail.com—I’d be happy to answer any questions and send over the consent form for you to look over.

If you yourself are not interested in participating, but feel others in your network might be, please do feel free to share my message and contact information with your network. It is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,
~Sheena Bernett
